Perkins Park
Renovation and Reconstruction
Newburyport, Massachusetts
Huntress Associates, Inc. was contracted by National
Grid, an international energy company, to prepare plans for the
renovation and park reconstruction of a former manufactured gas
plant site in Newburyport, Massachusetts. The highly profiled project
involved excavation and off-site disposal of approximately 3,500
tons of coal tar contaminated soils from an existing park situated
within a very densely populated residential neighborhood.
Partnering with the client, Huntress Associates attended
several community meetings and Conservation Commission hearings
to outline the proposed site improvements and to explain the system
of operations and public safety measures.
HAI managed the design and construction of the new
park system, which included a sodded softball field, wetland restoration
and landscape plantings, basketball courts, tennis courts, and many
other site amenities.
