Kohlrausch Park
Billerica, Massachusetts

Kohrausch Park was founded in 1902, after Charles Kohlrausch's family donated land in his memory to create a permanent open space and neighborhood park for North Billerica. The park was originally constructed in 1903 based on the site design of the nationally recognized Landscape Architect, Warren H. Manning. To restore and recreate the vision of Manning's plan, Huntress Associates, Inc. was retained in January 2001 to prepare construction documents for the park's renovation. After performing historic research, documentation, and presentation of the original design, HAI successfully completed the project in the summer of 2002, preserving the integrity of the principles behind Manning's craftsmanship. The renovation included two baseball fields, parking lot, playground, walking paths, interpretive stations, and a streetscape design sympathetic to the adjacent Historic District. The project received the 2002 Design of FacilityAward from the Massachusetts Recreation and Park Association.
